How to use this guide

These are common size ranges for ceramic tableware in general, not measurements of particular Clayserve pieces. Handmade pieces also vary a little from one to the next, so check the product page for the piece you are looking at.

Cups and mugs

Capacity is usually measured to the brim, so a comfortable pour is a little less.

  • Espresso cup: about 60-90 ml
  • Tea cup: about 150-200 ml
  • Coffee mug: about 250-350 ml
  • Large mug: 400 ml and above

Plates

Plates are measured across the widest point, rim to rim.

  • Quarter or side plate: about 15-20 cm
  • Dinner plate: about 25-28 cm
  • Serving platter: 30 cm and above

Bowls

Bowls are measured across the top; depth changes how much they hold.

  • Katori or dip bowl: about 8-11 cm
  • Soup or cereal bowl: about 13-16 cm
  • Pasta bowl: about 20-24 cm
  • Serving bowl: 20 cm and above
